Volunteer
I have been volunteering as a befriender with Hope City Foundation and I’ve had the pleasure of chatting to a lovely lady who lives in supported living environment. She lives alone, doesn’t have family and often feels lonely. We chat every week over the phone, talking about everything and anything. She has a wonderful sense of humour, and an hour turns quickly turns into 2! With lockdown measures easing recently, I’ve been able to see her and although we have only known each other for a few months, it has felt just like meeting a good friend. She has told me that the conversations have been good for her, it’s lifted her spirits and she feel like she has family. Being a part of the befriending team has been amazing, it’s shown me that kindness is not limited by location. Just a simple chat each week has brightened the day, brought a smile, and made a real difference, for both of us.

Easter
Over Easter a hamper was delivered to an elderly lady who lives on her own. She was so thankful and in tears as had not received an Easter egg from anyone in over two years.
Shareware
One lady was in desperate need of some new shoes and clothes but had no money to buy any. We were able to support her through a referral to Shareware and she was blown away by all the wonderful clothes they gifted her with. It was a privilege getting to see the wonderful smile on her face when she came into the grocers the following week to show off her new clothes!
