Polka Dots Playgroup

Are you looking for a playgroup in Sheffield which is different?

Polka Dots Playgroup, based at The Hope Centre, is led by an experienced teaching professional who has designed each session to help you to educate your child through play and child-led activities and give them the best possible start in life.

Each Playgroup session is designed to be engaging and educational and help your child to learn the skills they need, recognising the importance of play in the lives of young children.

Polka Dots Playgroup is a great place to socialise and build relationships with other parents or carers and to allow your little one to mingle with children their own age.

Hello from our Playgroup leader!

Hello, my name is Catherine Lanera, I am a fully qualified primary school teacher with over 20 years’ experience. I have also been a Nursery Manger, so I have a wealth of knowledge in Early Years Education.

I have the wonderful privilege of leading Polka Dots Playgroup as part of my role as Family Support Worker here at Hope Community Foundation, working alongside a wonderful team of volunteers.

We provide a range of games and fun activities to assist children in developing their pre-literacy and numeracy abilities. Youngsters listen to read-aloud stories, sing alphabet songs, discover rhymes that help them differentiate between sounds, and play with alphabet magnets. Children will develop invaluable social skills that will set them up for life.

Also, through my teacher-led activities; story-time questions, paper aeroplane competitions, or treasure hunts, children will learn essential problem-solving skills through puzzles, block games, board games, stacking rings, and sorting or colour-coding games.

We also support parents, and model how to teach children through play.

A playgroup provides an incredible opportunity for children to learn, thrive, and socialise. But I am sure you will find out that Polka Dots is much more than just a playgroup.

My goal is to bring learning to life, helping the little ones to learn some of their Early Learning Goals and preparing them for Nursery.

I look forward to seeing you here!

Catherine

Session Details...

Join us every Monday 10:30 to 12term time only at The Hope Centre, ask reception to direct you on arrival!

They'll be toys, messy play, craft, story time and singing for the children to enjoy. Hot drinks, biscuits and snack will also be provided for families that join us.

There is no requirement to pay for your session, but as a charity we do ask for a recommended minimum donation of £1.50 per child per session to cover the cost of refreshments and materials. You may desire to contribute more than this, that is greatly appreciated and every donation helps to ensure that we don’t exclude those genuinely unable to donate.

We are also looking to launch a second playgroup in 2024, so if you would like to register for this then contact us at info@hcfoundation.org.uk
